I would like to know what did cause that to happen, I can not believe that all the flip flops are causing the same thing or there would be hundreds of complaints. But that sure is nasty and painful looking. I knew there was a reason I did not like those things!

It's probably a rare allergic to reaction to some chemical that isn't usually used on products. That would explain why this is the first case (that i've heard of) and that not everyone is getting the same results.

pet food, tooth paste, toys and what ever else.
anyone catch a few weeks ago about The execution of China's former food and drug safety chief. They were knowingly using banned ingredients in lots of products to cut cost.

I've seen similar results many years ago, pre-WalMart. I attributed it to sun, sand and sensitive skin. I just quit wearing them before it got that bad......I pride myself in having a partial brain.
Did you know that the TOPS of your feet are one of the most likely-to-sunburn places on your body? (don't ask how I know this...)
my theory: sand being held under the strap, stuck there by sunscreen, add some skin-drying effects from salt water/air....all irritating pasty white skin not normally accustomed to the sun, the strap, salt air and abrasive sand.
Here it is coupled with an inability to recognize when something is wrong and modify one's behavior to stop said problem......
Doctor: "Does it hurt when I do this? (hits patient)
Patient: YES!
Doctor: Then don't do that.....$50 please.
Modern sequel: Blame WalMart and go lawsuit phishing.

Safety is not always a top priority for Chinese manufacturers and short cuts and "fake products" are rampant. "Fake" in their terms as used by the locals implies possibly not safe. On the other hand, I seem to remember many recalls of American made products with similar - or worse - potential problems in the past.
Quality, manufacturing, and potential risks have always been balanced. With a global economy that balance sometimes tilts in the opposite direction. While the Chinese (or other cheap labor pool) should suffer the consequences, so should the Americans who buy and distribute the stuff.

Sorry, guys, you are delving into really bad science here. You've jumped from a skin rash to 'it's all China's fault".
It may be true but no one has any data to prove what caused it.
