good advise for anything electronic when this happens.
Remove all power (including batteries) immediately and allow it to dry for a few days. A low heat from a hair dryer can speed things up a bit (don't cook it, just warm it to speed up evaporation and circulation).
For a notebook, try to remove as many doors and covers as possible (HDD, memory, even the keyboard are easily removeable). Leave the display open and stand the unit on one end.
Water won't hurt anything
if there is no power on, the boards were most likely cleaned after assembly with water anyway. Drinks with other things (like sugars, etc) can leave behind deposits than can short things out even if dry, so you can have less luck with these.
I typed for years on a notebook that had lived thru numerous spills, the only long term effect was a few slightly sticky keys.....
BTW one thing I look for when buying a notebook is a spill tray under the keyboard. It will appear as a short upturned edge around the outer perimeter of the keyboard. It is pretty easy to spot and can be a huge insurance policy. They used to be pretty standard but may not be so anymore.
