I've been sleeping on this old futon for about 4 weeks now. It is stiff as a rock and has been causing me lower back problems; I also have a hard time getting a good night's sleep in it.

Anyone know a good store where I can just buy a mattress for a good price and throw it on the floor to sleep on? Any brand suggestions?

My Ikea mattress is pretty comfortable and was reasonably priced. Otherwise, try Ibuprofen and Benadryl, ha.

In Ft. Worth there is a place called City Mattress that has pretty good prices and I'm pretty sure they would deliver to Austin. We have bought several from them with no problems.

Check out Sam's Club or Costco (you need a membership or a friend with one for either)

What do you consider a "reasonable" price? I've been sleeping on a Sleep Number bed for a couple of years now. Kind of expensive ($2500 for a King Sized, mid grade model), but it's supposed to last 20+ years which makes the price easier to bear. Best purchase I could have made.

I second this option. They sell some really NICE Sealy's and they are very good for the $$$. I think you can get a Queen Mattress and Box Spring for about 585.00 or somewhere in that range. VERY good quality and comfortable to sleep on.

Actually, less. I looked this week. Queen mattress I was looking at was $298 (I think - may have been $398) and the box spring was $98.

I bought a foam mattress in a box at Walmart.......sort of like that expensive temperapedic(Spelling?) brand......but around $200 (queensize) My husband and I agree this is the most comfortable mattress ever! I think it is 10 inches of that memory foam..... I have some back problems ....but my back has never felt better since this mattress.
