Running on the Sun - 08-08-2007, 10:58 PM

I just finished watching the movie, Running on the Sun. It's about an ultra marathon called the Badwater 135. I don't remember who recommended the movie, just that they said that you didn't have to be a runner to enjoy it. They were right. I'm not a runner and I enjoyed it. It's unreal what people do to test themselves. Running 135 miles through Death Valley in July in under 60 hours (the record is something like 28 hours and change) is a pretty good test.

Good stuff.

Wow. Sometimes I just can't comprehend how far people can push themselves. It's amazing that people would do something like that in the first place, and even more amazing that they have succeeded!

We have a guy from W-Falls who competes in that event.

He's late 50s (maybe 60 I can't remember). If you complete the event in less than 48 hours, you get a sweet belt buckle.

He finished in 54 hours last time, three of those hours in the medical tent getting fluids pumped back into his body. He thinks he can finish in under 48 this time.

Well... it's time to get back in the game.

I've wanted to do that race for several years now. That DVD is awesome.

I've ran a few times out in DV - such a beautiful place. Best was running through the dunes at Stove pipe Wells just as the sun was coming up.
Going back in a few weeks for some more!

I can see why someone that runs would want to try it. I'm just not a runner. I've tried and I can't do much more than about 5k (after conditioning) without having to drop down to a fast walk.

The DVD surprised me. I watched every bit of it and will probably watch it a few more times.

I'd probably have a heat stroke and die just watching the video.
