Poor puppy! My doggie has been acting odd the past few days. Im taking her to the vet on monday. She is usually running chasing birds. She runs so much we have the birds flight patterns etched into our backyard. Shes just sitting on the back porch.

How'd you figure out what it was?

thanks for all the replies...

krump (krumpet, 6 years) ) started feeling poorly wednesday night - whined to be let outside around 130 am - she ate fine thursday (5am) and didn't start vomiting until 3. that kept up pretty much around the clock till there was nothing left but bile. we took her in friday morning, they DIDN"T do a blood test then, just checked her over, gave her a shot for nausea, some medicine for diarreah (which she had also but wasn't like going all the time). also antibiotics for general principle.

this morning, i tried to entice her with eggs and cheese, but she turned her nose at it, and her tail was down, and she was kinda hunched up. so back to the vet - this time they check for that specifically - and the blood test was positive. they said usually a dog will get something like this from eating pork or sausage. she gets nothing but dog food, even as a treat, their dog food is all they get. (we have two, and they are both heavy). she doesn't have access to anything like garbage, so this is a mystery as to what caused it.

now i just called the vet's office, to check on her and of course, i got the answering service. the lady gave me a number to the 'back office' and said, you didn't get that phone number from me...

i'm trying to trust they are taking good care of her and that she's doing fine. her sister dog (teah) misses her and is walking around pretty forlorn looking.

Had a Yorkie that had rounds with it off and on in life and she was never given pork/sausage, just can pet food and treats which may have contained it. My vet said it tends to run in dogs who are pleasingly plump (nice way of saying overweight) also. Meds and a diet made her better.
If she is not use to being away from home, see if they will let you take something she and her friend sleeps on or even a shirt that you have worn so she will pick up your scent and teah's so she will feel your presence and get well faster. As a child we boarded a happy go lucky family dog while going on vacation and when we got back he had starved himself to death. The field of human and animal hospitals still lack the most important ingredient-love and emotional well being. Medicine alone won't always save a life. Took a cat in that had fuild on her lungs. Left her there 2 days and she still wouldn't eat. Brought her home and forced pills down her taking her back in every 2 days to have the fluids pulled off her lungs. Few minutes after getting home she ate like a horse-county cat didn't like being caged I guess. Vet did not expect her to make it but after almost 2 months of this ordeal she got well and is doing fine. Now sometimes when she wouldn't eat on her own I did roll the food up into little meat balls which inticed her to eat. The antibiotics and fluid build up constantly got her to the point of not eating so everytime I took her in to get the fluids out I had the vet give her a tagamet shot (which she claims was not necessary). So one of the last few times I took her in I didn't get her the shot. Ususally right after she got home she ate like a horse again, but this time she didn't. So I took her back in and got the shot and sure enought when she got home she ate like a horse. She now costs more than any of my len's do, but I feel pretty sure if I had just left her in the vets care and didn't bring her home she wouldn't have made it and would have starved herself to death. Leaving something with my scent with her wouldn't work since she was an outside cat that didn't even care for petting. Found out later now she's back outside I can pet her as long as none of her offspring are around to see it. All my animals are spayed and neutered, ended up with 8 cats (her and 7 kittens from 2 batches) from a neighbor.

The wife's mutt (terrier x) had pancreatitis. $1500 later, he was back home. He's been on Prescription Diet i/d ever since. Last summer, the lil' fart had a ruptured gall bladder. $5000 for that little trick. Now he's like a puppy again (he's 8) and eats like a Trojan. Over $6500 for a SPCA adoptee! Oh well....there are worse ways to spend cash.

The things we do for our dogs. . . thankfully my dogs haven't had anything other than colds. . . but my mom's dog a lhasa apsa (sp) jumped down off my bed one night and started whimpering. . . I took him to the ER vet and told my mom to meet me there (she was still at work). By the time I got him to the vet he barely walked. . . then his back half just went numb. And he couldn't keep it up. He broke his back landing off my bed. So my mom rushed him to A & M for emergency surgery, closest vet that would do it. . . the dog stayed in College Station for two weeks. . . every day my mom went and saw him. Then had to give the dog physical therapy. . . turns out he was ok. . . the only side effect was he could no longer hold his bladder. . . so he'd walk around peeing everywhere. . .

Sorry to hear, Janet. I'm glad Krump will be OK, but I know until he's back home and well, you will worry and miss him.

Jazz was diagnosed with pancreatitis just a few months after I got her. I can't remember if she threw up, but she stopped eating AND drinking. I had to take her to PetVet since it was the weekend, and they gave us some pills. About a day later she started eating and drinking again. It was weird. I gues her case (if that's even what it was) was mild.

Friday night I spent $500 at the emergency vet after Jazz had what looked like a small seizure. Her bloodwork wasn't conclusive and I feel like I don't know anything except I'm going to have a nasty credit card bill! It's frustrating.

Get well Krump!
