Go with your gut....
Craig's list is free so you will get the good with the bad. I was giving away a FREE coutch. The guy wanted to know if I'd deliever it across town. Ya right. Other then that I've had good dealings on the site.

I put something up a couple of hours ago, and someone just emailed me with questions that could have been answered if they took the time to read the posting. And to make it even more weird, they were from out of town.....yeah right......like i'm gonna fall for that one....

I've sold, bought, and given away stuff on Craigslist. It's just a modern version of the local newspaper classifieds. I alway have the worst problem with giving away free stuff, I won't give away electronic stuff anymore. People want free stuff even when they don't know what it does. And as mentioned above, they want it delivered when I tell them I live out by the lakes a half hour out of Austin. But it's Free, dumbbunnies!
So actual tips for you, Cash only, local only (unless it's a TPFer) and meet them at a Starbucks near an ATM, in case they conveniently don't have quite enough cash. That is always a good ploy, you're asking $200 and they put $175 in their wallet and claim that's all they've got. Just point them to the nearest ATM.

For the freebies, Tom, check out http://www.freecycle.org/ . We've used it quite a bit, both ways, and it's a little different from the craigslist crowd.
