Annoyance:: Are We There Yet? - 08-19-2007, 07:35 PM

Ok, parents, tips, suggestions, or just commiseration for those LONG trips with the kids. We left today to take our daughter Victoria to Victoria, TX. Ten minutes out both kids were asking: "Are we there yet?" And this with Cars playing on the portable DVD. An hour later, my youngest asks: "Are we there yet?" My response is: NO! Don't ask again, and watch your movie! Granted since we got the DVD player, the questions are down to three or four times a trip, so it has helped. What do you do to deal with the dreaded question?

I make sure I get them plenty of DVD's and coloring books!

Oh, do not forget the Gameboys, PSP and the most important part is HEADPHONES!

This works quite well for us Of course our son is 2 1/2 and Cars is his favorite movie. He can watch it over and over and....

My favorite line:
Lightning McQueen: "Doc is a famous racecar... He has 3 piston cups!!!"
Mater: "He pissed in his what?"

or something like that

These are the games I play with the kids when they are driving me nuts:

1) You call out one thing, like "bicycle." Whoever spots what is called out goes next. I like to call out things I think they will never find. Like "flowers" when there is snow outside. They still find it somewhere, but it does keep the noise down enough to stay sane.

2) Who can stay completely silent the longest. The winner of that game gets a really great prize, or it won't work for long.

You might try taking your kids with you more often, so they learn how to ride in a car over an extended period of time.

That's like saying, have a tooth pulled regularly so when you have to it won't hurt so much.

Personally... to me... those are the times to cherish... of course mine are almost all in their 20's so my perspective has shifted I'm a horrible passenger btw... I would be like... can I drive... let me drive... I wanna drive... pretty please can I drive...

Seriously... my kids were good travelers... and well seasoned by the time they were 7 or 8.

We take the kids with us as often as possible, and they make the trip to Pflugerville regularly to see their cousins, so they are pretty good for the most part. The last trip to Uvalde, however, made me want to resort to the Benadryl...

Oh well, not sure I could have done it anyway, I never give my kids drugs unless they are in horrible pain.

My poor kids are missing out on that. I tried spanking for a few weeks a couple years ago, just made me want to kill myself. I'll still smack their ass sometimes, just once, not the same as a spanking, tho. At least nothing like the spankings I got!

Well... truth be known... don't tell anyone... but I rarely spanked mine... Their mom handled it. I couldn't handle the way it made me feel. They came out all right... I think spending time with them is more important than beating them but that's just me

As far as what I got... whew...

all this talk of spankings is kind of turning me on

Yeah, I have no doubt they'd turn out alright, it's me that can't handle it. Kids are resilient!
