I so want to take my camera, but I am somewhat embarrassed and don't want to be "That guy showing off gear"... LOL | | | | | Sponsored Links | Premium Members do not see Google advertisements. They are gonna think you are weird regardless. Just take it.
I went to a couple PTA meetings last Spring. Keep in mind I live in the middle of nowhere and these moms have probably known each other since they were in school. There is no hope for me to ever fit in. Who cares?!
It's all about you & your child. If you want to cry the first time the bus comes to your house, I won't judge you! ;) When my first started Kindergarten my husband cried like a baby.

Hrmm.. Ok.. may have to do it anyway then..
I do plan to go to the breakfast on Monday.. But we're taking him to school... It's a brand new school (1st year to open)...Gonna be crazy traffic as they did not add any roads and must share with the middle school around the corner. We have opted not to use the bus... but.. we'll see. LOL

Andrew, don't worry about - I brought my camera today to my kids meet the teacher.... and they're only in pre-school!
I did take my battery grip off and used the 50mm (yeah, left the 70-200 at home).

From a teachers view point, take it.
Most teachers are also parents and understand about those firsts. Last year I had parents take pictures at meet the teacher night, and also awards ceremony and end of the year events.

take it
i am forever known as the photographer in my DDs school.
they actually ask where it is if i dont bring it.. it seriously became an extension of me at the school.
it is exposure for you.. and you get to document milestones that will never be repeatable. dont feel bad for that.

Andrew, I just had this talk with my 7 year old. Don't worry about what other people think! It will only hold you back and stop you from doing the things that make you happy. I am glad I could use the same advice for a 7yr old for you. LOL.

Is there any chance you will regret not taking it? (yes) Have you ever been somewhere and wished you brought your camera? (yes) Do you want to have regrets? (no) DOes it metter if you are a dork? (no)
You know better than most of those people how important it is to take the pictures, and how those moments will never be re-doable. Just do it, damnit! I can't believe you are thinking of NOT doing it!
One of the perks of having kids is getting to paparazzi them!
When we were in Texas we drove ours to school, too. I'm not too keen on my kids getting on the bus with no seat belts and who-knows driving it. We did not let her go on out-of-town school trips, either.
Where we are now, the school is down the hill. So we stick them on the bus.

Some districts/schools have media agreements about using them in published media that the distrct publishes, something to be aware of.

The day that a school district trys to impose a no picture of my kids 1st day of school policy will be the day that I put them in private school and/or may make me resort to doing something childish like I did when I was a student.
I do appreciate the warning though.. I now will have time to craft a "mature response" ahead of time. Hope I don't need it...
