Scam scam every where a scam scam. - 08-24-2007, 08:31 AM

My wife has been wanting to adopt a new puppy so I started looking at local classified ads. Here is a reply I got when responding to an ad for an English Bulldog.

Quote:
Thanks for the mail and the interest you have for this my baby. She is well potty trained and loves playing with kids and other dogs.I am giving her out for adoption and not selling her and i am looking for a pet lover who will give her lots of love as i have always done.My main aim of getting this puppy a new home is that the nature of my new work does not give me enough time to take good care for her and thus i decided to give her up for adoption to any loving home.I would like to know more about your self and if you do have other dogs because she is very friendly and playful to other dogs and kids.I call her Nocky and she loves her name such that when ever call like that she will jump up to me like a child .She has taken all her shots and shall come along a health guarantee.I am from the Texas area but right now am in Victoria Cameroon for my transfer work and i will be shipping the puppy from here which will take 6-7 hours of flight. All you are requested to take care of is her shipping cost over to you ok.I look forward to read from you asap if you really want this puppy.
Is there anything these people won't do?

I really want an English Bulldog too. For the longest I wanted a Yorkie until all of my friends convinced me that I needed something more manly. My next choice was an English Bulldog because they seem so lazy and easy to get along with. Was this ad in the paper or on Craigslist?

Nope, right down to scamming for less than $100.00 on hot items like shoes and small electronics. KNOW who you are dealing with is the only safe way anymore.

No, I don't think there is anything they won't do for a buck. From lottery scams, to orphans and widows with millions of dollars who need only your bank account number, to money you inherited from your long lost relative in the UK. They have many ways to convince folks that they'll get a free lunch. They prey on the elderly many times, and it can be difficult to convince people that no, they didn't win a lottery they never entered or heard of and they shouldn't send more money off for the international taxes before they can collect their winnings.

Seems I remember some scam a couple of years ago involving Yorkies that originated out of Nigeria. Be careful.

Tell them you're already in Nigeria and will just come pick the dog up, saving them a trip to the shipper.

Wow, these scams sure are getting creative. I hope I never have to fly a dog in cargo. I don't think I could do it.

Ask them how they plan to have the dog get through quarantine/customs. It would have to be shipped to a bonded kennel/warehouse and thus the shiping and transfer costs would be controlled.

Nevertheless, son't they realize the shipping/transfer costs for this would be in excess of $1K, and you can get a paperd BD pup for less?

Some scammers are idjuts.

Thread drift alert!

I had my English Bulldog for about 8 years. They are great dogs but only for certain people. English Bulldogs don't need a lot of exercise. If your looking for a dog to run with, this isn't the one. They are definitely inside dogs and would not last long in Houston's heat. Also, they tend to slobber a lot especially after eating and drinking so if your a neat freak you might be better off with another breed. They love to play and be petted. They are definitely like kids and will follow you around all day. With their short snout they can't breath as well as most dogs and because of this they tend to snore really loudly. Also because of their breathing problem they don't tend to live very long. Mine died of an enlarged heart after only 8 years. Overall, I really liked our English Bulldog he was a lot of fun. In reality, I think the ideal match for a dog like this would be an elderly person. English Bulldogs are great lapdogs.
