yet ANOTHER Vista problem - 08-27-2007, 08:15 AM

well we have bought a new vista machine at work and i just CANT get it to connect to the network it obtains an IP from the router you can ping all the other machines you can ping it from the other machines and you can SEE it from other machines but cant connect to it, I can open the Network assistant and choose "view all shared resources on my network" and a box opens up and say the network scan has been restarted and will take a few minutes"
and that is all it ever says

i am begining to wonder about vista ugggggg

David, if you are looking for solutions to your problem. A photography forum probably isn't the best place to look.

Vista works a lot like XP after the "Windows Firewall" service pack. I comes in a locked down state, and you just have to make sure you have the resources you want available turned on.

For instance, if it says you are on a Public network, not Private, you will not be able to access your computer from another machine. If you do not have File sharing turned on, you will not be able to access the computer. If you have Windows Firewall turned on, you will not be able to access the computer (unless you configure WF appropriatley).

Check you network configuration. be sure you have these configured and configured correctly. From here we can move forward.

My father in law just got Vista on a new computer...it too me hours to get it to connect to another PC...XP...through a router.

What version of Vista are you running. Depending on the version you might not be able to connect to a domain with the current version. i.e. top-of-the-line version.........
