1Ds MK III info - 08-29-2007, 12:33 PM

Just opened an email from Canon, News and Offers- Back to school edition and the 1Ds Mark III is asterisked with this note. *The EOS-1Ds Mark III has not been authorized as required by the rules of the Federal Communication Commission. This device is not, and may not be, offered for sale or lease or sold or leased until authorization is obtained.

I wonder how strongly FCC politics will effect the authorization now that the 1Ds Mark III is publicly announced.

Any idea whether or not Canon tried to leverage the FCC (with the public announcement) and lost?

I am not so sure that leverage would have anything to do with it in this case. I don't know if you remember when the Iphone was announced, but all adverts prior to them gaining approval had the same sort of notice. I am sure that any issues could cause delays in the release, but it sounds to me like they are instead ensuring that the public understands at least one of the reasons that their might be a delay.

This also may be a very effective attempt to draw attention to a previously unavailable feature that is new with this camera. For example, let's say that they want to make sure you know about thier new built-in wireless module, well a big warning on the bottom of the ad, that gets you to wondering why the FCC would need to approve a camera would certainly draw attention to that new feature.

No. I've never paid any attention to ianything and until you mentioned a built-in wireless module I wouldn't have even thought that Canon had added that. Guess I need to review the specs on it.

I'm sure the authorization process is underway, to me this sounds like when movie theaters show a preview for a movie that has not yet been rated and it carries a disclaimer to that effect.
