I´ll be going to Dallas (living in Sweden) on business in less than two weeks and I´ll be staying in Plano (2601 E. George Bush Turnpike, Plano, Texas, USA 75074 ).
Apart from buying a Canon Lens and a digital pocket camera I´m lookiing at picking up some tools. Nothing bulky. Well, maybe a screwdriver.
Any tips on where to go for a good selection of quality tools.

If you are any kind of computer geek, I highly suggest a trip to Fry's Electronics. Most visiting engineers that I work with are pretty impressed with our version of the electronics super-store. There is one located on Plano Parkway near the intersection of Hwy 75 and the George Bush Turnpike. Trust me, you'll find more tools than you can carry there.

They do not seem to have the brands I´m looking for though. I think I´m looking for a more specialized store selling quality brands like Makita, Milwaukee, Dewalt etc.

I agree with Scott about Fry's, and if you're looking for a little better quality and more for mechanical purposes, there is a shopping mall just before Hwy 75 (Collin Creek Mall) that has a "Sears" store.
You might want to stop in at Home Depot or Lowes for those brands ... not sure if Sears carrys those brands ...
Where are you living in Sweden ? I spent a month in Täby ...

You would need a pretty good transformer for a motor that size, not the typical travel type, obviously. Plus, those motors don't fare well on 50 cycles.

Makita, Milwaukee, Dewalt etc.
| Curious why you would want to buy electric/battery tools in hand over here. Why not just order online and have shipped? Not that this is all these brands make, but the majority of things by these three are power tools.
Now, as for screwdrivers, go to any electric outlet and get Klein. Can even pick them up in home depot/lowes. Nothing beats Klein hand tools when it comes to screwdrivers and linemans pliers.

| Those brands are all readily available in Russia, surely they are there, too.

I suggest Harbor Freight a little east of Hwy 75 on Belt Line. Cool stuff and hard to beat prices.

I can´t have them shipped since I live in Sweden. Then I would have to pay 25% tax once they are cought in customs.
I´m aware of the voltage issue but that is no problem for me. Thanks for all your advice!!! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
