Ok, anyone here seen a show called Dad's Army? Its set in England in 1940 and the characters are all part of the local Home Guard ready to defend Jolly Old England from the Nazis. Pretty funny, occassionally PBS shows some. Also how about Fawlty Towers, and Black Adder? Anyone, Anyone, Buehler?

I grew up watching all that sort of thing. There is only a handful of fawlty towers episodes, mores the pity.

I have loved British sitcoms for years. My girlfriend is British and let me just say, those shows started out as serious dramas in England-----laughter was added to the background later. They are a little different over there, also a little different over here when they came from over there.

Seriously, I love those shows.

Besides the classic Python, Fawlty Towers is hysterical. Are You Being Served amuses me from time to time. Check out the original Bedazzled! (1967) with Dudley Moore for a good laugh. Its out on DVD in the US now, but be careful not to accidentally pick up the American remake.

Always awesome.

Coupling (not the American disaster remake) is also hysterical, if you like that sort of thing (a more adult version of friends)

Thirty years ago, I worked with an elderly british gentleman who told me that Dad's Army wasn't too far from the way it really was with the Home Guard. He had never seen the series until I told him about it.

Dallas PBS has brit comedy on Sunday nights. There is one "Keeping up Appearances" that I watched once with my wife.. it was scary because the lead character is EXACTLY my MIL!!! Even to having the same first name!!

PBS shows some of the brit shows on Saturday and Sunday nights.

Mulberry is a good show that comes on Saturday night.

Keeping up appearances and Last of the summer wine are other good shows that come on each weekend.

Another show also comes on but the name slips my mind right now.

As for Faulty Towers, I believe the show only ran for 2 years and therefore you will not see a lot of episodes.

My grandfather was in the home guard. He shared a bullet with 10 others. They'd rotate who had the bullet each week. They all had rifles though...

Had to call and get the name of the show the b/f really liked.. It's called "Bottom". When we first started dating he had me watch a couple of episodes. told me later that he knew then that he'd keep me around for a while since I got the humor and actually chuckled quite a bit....
