7000 mesages on outlook express, plz help - 09-02-2007, 10:10 PM

I was monkying around with my settings in Outlook express because I decided not to store email online any more. My reasoning was yes I would lose archival material but as regular as my harddrives break I did not look forward to rebuilding op sys and all related programs.
When Outlook express was reloaded it could take hours to re-download all of those e-mails.
Anyway my problem now is everytime I open OE on my laptop it wants to download over 7000 e-mails and I dont know what to do.
Any ideas? I'm dyin here.
Thank you for reading this

Henry, as long as the messages are on the server this will probably continue. When all of the messages are downloaded from the server Outlook must reset a marker. I know that when I have aborted during a download, on the next download I will receive duplicates of all the messages that I had received prior to the abort. I would suggest that you let it download the messages, maybe overnight, and just delete them. You were planning on losing them anyway. Once you have downloaded the messages once you should never have the problem again. I know that is a pain, but it may be the only way to resolve the problem.

Or don't let it download the messages. Take the account "offline" (so that it doesn't try to dl) in outlook, go to your preferences, and tell it to "delete messages from server now" for that account. Then take the account back "online."

You may be able to call your ISP and have them remove them from the server. I had a similar thing happen, and I use Earthlink, so I called and had them delete all of my email from their server.
