Crazy night. I have gotten 5 requests from my friends in China. They want me to buy them the IPhone here and they will crack it in China. They claimed the hack works. Is it cheaper here than it's in China?

What do you actually get with an unlocked iphone? I've never understood that.

right now in order to have an iphone you have to get an account with AT&T.... meaning if you use anyone else you have to switch carriers.

current sprint, tmobile, verizon users can not buy an iphone to use on their current phone service... they are locked and only to be used with AT&T

unlocking the iphone allows the phone to be used with ANY carrier... So i currently use sprint, i can go buy an iphone and instead of getting an account with AT&T, I can unlock it and drop in my sprint SIM card and the phone will work with my current Sprint service.

They are discontinuing the 4gig iPhones, so good luck finding one. They've decided to add 16 gig instead.... don't know the price point on it.

just to let you know, all you iphone hackers are really sticking it to Steve Jobs and Apple.

By using the iphone on a network other than AT&T you are stealing 20% of your monthly service contract from Apple.... ROCK ON!!!!! stick it to the man.

Part of the exclusive constract between Apple and AT&T, is AT&T is to pay apple 20% of each montly service contract for each iphone activated on the AT&T network.

So if you love apple and Steve Jobs you better not hack it

James

Abel... before you run out and buy one you need to know that the iPhone will only work on a GSM network. In the US there are only 2 carriers that run GSM: AT&T and T-Mobile. Sprint uses TDMA or CDMA (I forget which).

Sorry to be a party spoiler :(

Sprint doesn't use SIM cards or the GSM carrier Abel, save your money as the phone can't be used on Sprint or Verizon at all, only TMo and AT&T at this time, also Apple can't make a CDMA (Sprint/Verizon) IPhone until 2012 per the contract with AT&T

I find it interesting that some people think it's okay to do this, yet raise bloody hell if someone uses their picture without permission.

You physically own the phone, you can legally unlock it yourself, what's the problem?

I never said there was a "problem". By your same context, it's okay to modify a cable box you buy, to get all the channels. To modify your satellite receiver to get more channels. You own the equipment, and are able to modify it, so what's the problem? I physically own my computer and pay for the bandwidth I use, so then the images that come into my computer therefore become mine to do with as I please, right?

I never said I had a problem with these practices .. just that I found it interesting. Generally speaking, it seems "It's all okay as long as it's some "big company", but when someone does it to me .. well, now that's just not right and something has to be done about it!".
