I just bought one for my wife, and it is really really nice.
A few forum members have bought the same laptop, inlcuding one that switched from PC to Mac, then sold his Mac to buy a Dell Vostro.
Worth a look, and very inexpensive if the deal is still going on. I think it was like $400 off or something on the 15" model. | | | | | Sponsored Links | Premium Members do not see Google advertisements. SIGN UP today and help support our community.

There are better quality components in Macs for the most part than your lower end Dells/HPs so the chance of something breaking I feel is less, but it's still a chance that it can happen. If you had a a cluster of pixels go out on your laptop screen, would you rather pay the $249 for 3 years of coverage, or chance that $1200 repair cost to replace the whole thing if it ended up happening in those 3 years? I'd rather pay the $249 upfront. If you sell the Mac while the AppleCare is still active, it's fully transferable and ups the resale.
AppleCare is just like any other warranty- it's piece of mind. As Andrew stated he never had the need for it (thankfully). But he was covered if he did. The Service is pretty highly rated too. But regardless of the product- computers, TV's, Appliances, Cars- if there's an extended warranty available to you at the time of purchase and you decide against it, it's a risk you take of not being covered in the event an issue occurs during that extended warranty's timeframe. I don't understand what's confusing about that. | My friend, I was just joshing ya'. I know that the internals are pretty much the same these days, I was just pointing out how a lot of "Born again Mac users" hype up how much better the Mac is put together, and for those people, if it's put together so well, why is there an Apple specific warranty? I guess it's like the Maytag repairmen commercials where the Maytag man is repairing the cable tv because he has nothing else to do.
Oh, and if we're looking for cheap, than PC wins. If we're looking to get the best PC for a specific amount of money... well again PC wins. Because if I can get a "comparable" PC for almost a grand less than a Mac, how much more PC can I get if I put that grand into it as well?
Oh maybe we should just shoot for the moon and get the absolute best?
Todd

This could have been commented about later, but I've read through majority of the thread now.
They mac does come with a 2 button mouse and it has a scroll wheel. You can also purchase a 2 button mouse for it, or in my case, I use a 4 button turbo mouse at home and 2 button mighty mouse at work.
See there it is #105. | | | |

Thanks for all of the feedback. I've remained a PC user. Wanted a Mac Book Pro or a Dell XPS Laptop; both were top of the line at over $3000 with the extras. In the end, I've postponed the best and gone with a $1000 Toshiba and used the extra money on a lens I've wanted for awhile. I'll have to wait awhile longer for a top machine I suppose. Thanks again for all the advice. Remaining with PC allowed me to conserve a bit of money on software and hopefully I won't regret my choice within the next two or three years. The poll was helpful as it showed me that no one wished to return to PC after going to Mac so I chose to postpone this pleasure.

Nice choice- if I had to buy a PC it'd be a Toshiba, and that's based off of the two my wife have owned and used for work for the last 7 years- both have worked pretty well considering they see about 15hrs a day of solid use, no real major hiccups and they've held up decently too (minus a few keys breaking).
So what lens did you get? :)

slickdeals.net had a special on Thursday 20 September for a dell vostro that was admitedly entry level for $389 which included a 19" analog monitor as well as free shipping. It was the best deal that I have seen on a computer in a long time.

I'm still trying to figure out if it is possible to upgrade to vista this century. Of course, OS X is already ahead of vista and with the new release coming out, I'm not so sure Windows in any variety would be a good choice. Do you want rock solid(OS X) or do you want to work on your machine(XP or Vista)? | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
