Remember the case in England where the two boys tossed a smaller boy to his death? The judge let them off with new identities.

Social Accountability...thats what is needed. These 2 will probably get convicted and spend the rest or most of their miserable lives in prison....but what will the public know about it?? not much. As the case goes through its' "due process", the public won't hear much more about it...except maybe in the city where it actually happened. A few months later we'll see a 2 sentence blurb on page 37A thats says something like "Adopted parents convicted of injury to a child. Both were sentenced to ...blah blah blah..."

I am not sure of what goes through a twisted sick f***s mind that could injure or harm a child like that...and to be honest, I don't know if there is penalty enough to PREVENT something like that from happening. I'd be all for...and AM ALL FOR...a public beating, flogging, shoot em in the knee cap, then kill em etc....in front of other child abusers/molestors. I personally would have NO problem being the leader of that event...BUT the question remains, will that deter or prevent another instance from happening...maybe/maybe not....the problem is, we'll never know. How many times do we see someone getting JUSTLY executed after they were witnessed by MANY, MANY people killing others. Yet at execution time, there are hundreds out there with signs screaming the death penalty is wrong...it's not right to take anothers life...wtf? I agree with them to a point though...It's NOT right to take anothers life...but if YOU do (maliciously), then prepare to give up yours...literally!!...as payment...

It's a sad world and there's NO acceptable penalty that will ever be agreed upon TOTALLY by the masses. I don't always agree with what my country's leaders adopt as law or policies...BUT I am very thankful FOR this country and the freedom it provides even though there are things I wish were different....

AND I am SO thankful I wasn't the arresting officer on this case....cuz I don't believe those two would have made a trip straight to the jail house. I'm a thinkin a hospital detour might have been in the works...my hats off to those who have the discipline to uphold the law...

WOW, what a rant...LOL...Kinda wished I hadn't read this story cuz now I'm gonna be pissed the rest of the day... ;)

Every time I see this kind of post I am left speechless. I don't understand how anyone can even go there. I think capital punishment for them is too nice... Anyone that steals a child's right to being a child... eh... let's lets just say they should experience pain indefinitely.

A Professional Photographer friend of mine recently did some work for A World For Children. She says the stories that the kids tell are beyond belief but AWFC seems to be the kind of organization that can turn things around for the kids.

How about this one? Sometimes it seems like Texas has cornered the market on parents trying to brutally kill their kids.

Duffy, she is bipolar so she will get off due to having mental problems. Mental or not I say hang them, the only mental problems I'll accept are those who are so far out of this world it would truly be an accident that they where able to kill someone. If you have the enough knowledge to pull a trigger, dump gas on someone, beat them to death with a baseball bat, or anything that takes mentallity to do then your not a basket case in my books and there is no such thing as temporary insanity. Too many of them are faking it to ride the system or get out of trouble and until they find a cure if they do it once they will do it again once they get back out on the streets.

Here's a space age thought. Hunters can hunt via the internet, lets do better than that. Build a prision in the desert and put all people who have harmed or killed another with malice in it, bring them in food and water (no ac, beds or TV) and use internet guards to shoot anyone who tries to break out. No one will care if they kill each other, that's an eye for an eye. If I do the same thing back to them they have done to others, that makes me no better than them, but if their peers do it then that's justice.

One of my favorite fiction authors has a phrase:
"In a world where mental illness can be treated by drugs, forgetting to take your pills is a capital crime." Or something to that effect.

Kay, the idea you propose I first ran across in the works of Robert A. Heinlein. He called it Coventry. Basically (not literally) toss 'em over the wall and let them fend for themselves, apart from the rest of society. That sort of idea was also the background for the Kurt Russell movie "Escape from New York."

Isn't there any follow up when children are shuffled around like this? Shouldn't people who go through the trouble of getting custody of children be required to at least bring them in for an evaluation, at least during the first year... (if no one can go visit the residence).

Can it really be that difficult?

A friend of mine advocates issuing each inmate a knife, and if he lsoes it, issue him another one.

DanMental hospitals where bad, but letting them out in society has been equally as bad for them and society. I think they ought to go back to mental hospitals, but group them and make sure they take their meds. I personally know a bank that has taken advantage of one in contanstly writing hot checks because he couldn't balance a bank statement yet all they did was make all they could off of him.Well guess I'm more like Heinlein, but I was trying to be nice about it. Never heard of him or seen Escape from New York. El Paso use to have a model prision where they had to grow their own food, make things to fund their upkeep, etc. which is where I based the ideal from but took it to the limits for those that go past the limit.JoeCase workers often are handed more cases than any one person can take on. I suspect they do try to follow up on when non-family members take them in, but are more trusting towards family members. Be nice if the system could take on volunteers or neighbors to check up on the kids for life no matter where they go.AlanInmates don't need knives, they already have home made ones. I'd advocate keeping them grouped together too, all druggies in one pen, etc.. Under the current system arming them can get guards hurt, but under a special made system I'd give each of those that had harmed others (DNA, caught red handed or more than eye witness) a gun with one bullet and replace the bullet when spent. I could pull the plug on people with not feeling guilty, but it would be in a case by case study of evidence. Jurys can be fooled, liars will confess to get fame and eye witness's can ID the wrong person, thus I would surely have to really know a person is guilty before I could do it. A lot of cases like this one there is no doubt to be had.Duffy, unfortunately the youngest girl set on fire has died. It will be amazing if any of the other 2 do pull through due to their ages. AC is out so I won't be back on til it gets back on.

OMG...this is just sick! That poor child weighed 30lbs?!?! At her age..I can't even imagine that! I'll never understand how people can be so cruel! As far as I'm concerned, there is no punishment bad enough for them...but I sure would like the chance to figure something out!
As far the woman with bipolar disorder....there are meds for that! That's no excuse as far as I'm concerned! I seriously doubt she just woke up completely nuts that day after having been normal all of her life! There were signs! And her choice not to act on those signs and get herself help was criminal! Times like this I'm sure glad I live in TX where they don't let people like this go...or even live! Hard hearted? Maybe...but I have 3 kids and I want people like that as far away from them as possible!
