Van Buren/Ft.Smith Arkansas - 09-20-2007, 08:11 AM

Is anyone on the list from or familiar with good photo op locations in Van Buren/Ft. Smith area? A possibility that my job will be sending me up there for a couple of months looking for places and things to shoot during my 'down' time. I was born and raised in central Arkansas (Little Rock area) but not real familiar with Ft. Smith.

Fayetteville is only 40 minutes up the road. Eureka Springs / Beaver lake area is around an hour and a half away. Lot of scenic landscape to see up in the NW AR area. Not real familiar with what to shoot in the FS area, even though my first semester of college was there. I was shooting shots then, not getting the shots. ;)

Gee, Terry. You must've made a pretty big impression.....they named an arena after you in Fayetteville. Or is Barnhill arena still around after Bud Walton built the new one?

Try to go to Devils Den SP. Lots of trails with caves and rock formations that are begging to be photographed. They were rebuilding the old WPA dam on the stream (after a flood) when I was there a few years ago but it should be finished by now. Mt Magazine SP is not too far (highest point in AR.) The whole area is full of streams , mountains and photo ops. You will not have a hard time finding something to shoot.

On the drive up towards Fayettville, instead of the new expressway, take the old two lane that winds up and down the river valley. It used to be the only way to Fayettville, and there are all sorts of little lodges, fishing cabins, country stores, and such that now get little business due to the new highway.

Yeah, Walter, Barnhill is still there. Although the hogs don't use it for games anymore. I was always getting that back before Walton stole my thunder. I mean, gee .. he's got Wal-Mart fame ..

You can also go on up to Rogers and go to Monte Ne. Another page. Interesting piece of history buried under the lake. Be sure to eat some AQ chicken while there in the area, too. Yum!
