Don't know if anyone caught this but I found it interesting...

This guy brought his DSLR into a game and got tagged (in error) by security.

Kudos to this kid for keeping his cool. I suspect there may well have been some profiling, but hopefully this will prevent a re-occurence.

I was at a Texans game last year and had a security guard pull me over and ask the same kinds of questions. He said that they would hold my camera and bag until after the game. I asked why was I allowed to bring it in? He then pulled out the "stadium manual" which stated that no proffessional cameras were allowed unless you had credentials provided by the stadium. I told them that I was not provided a "stadium manual" and that I had the camera out and in plain site when I went thru the several security checkpoints and no one said anything about this rule. One lady asked if it was a video camera and I told her no, just stills and she said "enjoy the game." I told them that it was a bunch of BS and I would not give up my camera or bag and left the game.

Those rules are NFL rules, not the rules of individual teams or stadium owners. The NFL just like any other major organization are very protective of their intellectual property. The players are their biggest assets. They don't want anyone to take a great touchdown photo and sell it later that's the problem they have. If you are employed by the NFL then they'll get their cut, you can take as many photos as you like.

What the geniuses at the NFL don't realize is the quality of those little PnS cameras are getting better by the year. Soon you won't need a DLSR to take a great photo...then they'll ban all cameras and cell phones.....

This is particularly interesting, considering that G Newman Lowrence, of NFL Photos, got his start by taking pics from the stands at Chiefs games.

I think it is very cool of the organization to apologize though. An apology is becoming more and more of a rarity these days, and it is good to see the organization try to make the situation right.

When it comes to "protecting" its stuff, the NFL acts like the proverbial 900 lb. gorilla. They now have a rule that no rebroadcast (podcast0 of an interview with an NFL player can exceed 45 seconds. They have threatened action against people who used the words Super Bowl in a non-NFL sanctioned broadcast. Ultimately, I think the goal is to have some sort of charge apply anytime anyone thinks about anything that has something to do with football.

There is a lawsuit in the works, which covers fair use, and among other defendants are the sports leagues for trying to tell the world they basically don't have any fair use rights.
