What do you do when - 10-07-2007, 08:29 PM

A baby despises light?
Unless the light was behind her she screamed!!
What do you do?
I reflected the light as much as possible and opened up the lens and dropped the ss to about 1/50th.
Any other suggestions?

BTW I did her newborn pics and they went well, but today we tried 2 different times and she hated the light.
We knew she wouldn't like flash but dang not even the soft even sunset light :(
But on a side not the few I have processed look good so far :D

I've never had that happen most babies are attracted to light.

Wow! So they can't take the baby outside in the day without it crying? Or near a window?
That would be a bummer!

I guess ISO 3200 and f/1.2 maybe?

Yeah the mother even said it was the light.
We tried her earlier in the day with the window light and she didn't like that she screamed for about 20 minutes and made herself almost sick. My kids loved the sunlight. But not this one.
And looks like I have to reshoot as my as in my camera is bad or something cause I only have like 5 keepers and it was sporadic and I am not that bad at keeping the camera still. Gonna take my lense in today and make sure it isn't the lense. Pretty sure it isn't as I have had the issue with another lense but I thought I had changed a setting on the camera. Restored it back to factory settings and it is getting worse :(

.. hermits

that poor child, probably never gets out.

I donno, maybe don't use stationary lights, use a flash and softbox, that might catch the baby off guard. haha. good luck on that one, sounds like a horrible situation.

This could possibly be a medical condition and have nothing to do with your equipment. There are several different medical reasons why a child would be sensitive to light, some of which may indicate a serious condition.

If I were the parents I would talk to a doctor about it.

I agree with Mark on this one a baby that is that sensitive to light could have a medical problem. My 8 year old cousin has to be real careful about certain lights, he cant deal with flourescent ones like walmart etc, outside for a bit and he will burn very quickly. On a side note he also has Aspergers, which is part of the Autistic Spectrum. Definitely urge the parents to have the baby checked out just in case.

I was thinking the baby might have the pink eye virus.

Thanks guys.
The baby was great as a newborn but obviously they don't do much at 7 days old lol
But seriously no flas was used at all.
The few shots I got was at about 655 last night as the sun was setting and she was facing away from the sun :(
I will definately say something to the mom.
She is a neighbor and I rarely ever see the baby outside. But then again we don't go out either as it is too freaking hot lol.

We are a tasteless bunch, are we not?

Hey I've mistakenly thought my new baby was smiling due to daddy, when it was really just a urine stream. That'll bring your elevated sense of self-worth right back where it belongs.

Point is, babies need a translator.
