Big Yellowfin caught from a kayak in 5000' of water - 10-11-2007, 09:55 PM

Some fishing buddies of mine (actually... they fish, I photograph and occasionally fish) went out to the floaters last weekend. One of them (Oz) launched his kayak from the Nyati in 5,000 foot of water out by the floaters and went after Yellowfin Tuna. He managed to hook, fight, and land one, all from the kayak. Pretty impressive stuff but that's how Oz rolls

The images and a really good video (look for the guy in the fighting chair) of a "special catch" from the boat are found at this LINK. You may have to log in to see it but it's worth it Uh... colorful language and "gestures" are in the video toward the end

very cool...

Theres a Spar Production platform in the background which is even more proof they were in deep deep water!

In fact I may have even done work on that spar during the design phase.. hehe.

Actually that's not very big at all, yellowfin are/were some of the biggest of the tuna but they've been so over fished that they rarely reach their full size...that angler should have thrown that little fish back.

Yellowfin have reached 8 ft long and 440 lbs.....

No... it isn't... the post was about catching it from a kayak. If Oz kept an undersized fish it wasn't healthy enough to release.
