Well, they sold film, not digits. Since they are so far behind the curve, what good would it do them? Plus, they probably no longer have the revenue to continue. All of this is my opinion, based on my deep research of what I think. Ok, so the research wasn't that deep. In fact, the depths of my ignorance has yet to be accurately plumbed. So there.

Kodak's revenue streams have changed alot in the past few years. You would be surprised at the other technologies, etc. that Kodak is involved in. Film was eating away at those other revenue streams, so this seems like a logical move for them in order to stay a profitable. I am pretty sure their most profitable business is not with individual consumers now days as much as it is with the digital and imaging industry.

Actually, they were one if not the first with a digits SLR and they provide the sensors for the Leica M8 and Olympus and the sensors for most all MF backs....

Inside Leicas, Olys and most major backs. They are leaders in sensor technology they just got out of comsumer products which wasn't their strong suit.

I was shooting with their fine M8 sensor just this morning...

They are in alot of other industries as well...product packaging and color matching technologies, color science etc. that we as consumers just don't buy into, unless it is in the form of another product. Believe it or not, but beer labels, chip bags, etc. all have Kodak product involved. Much bigger than justs the photographic industry alone.

I intereviewed at RIT for a Program Administrator's position in Digital Imaging (turned it down - too cold in Rochester, NY) and they are not hurting, asmuch money as they sink into the RIT program!

I was up in Rochester NY a couple a months ago. Its amazing how badly that town is faring. So much of the economy was tied up in Kodak film. Everywhere you look there are Kodak chemical and manufacturing plants. The service economy which depends on the Kodak business is now clearly beginning to suffer. Digital may still be big business for them but it has nowhere near the impact film once had.
