Interesting article about where your money goes...
some of these things I don't do, but the ones that I do "indulge" in I don't really think about. kinda amazing how a little here and a little there can add up...

My largest unnecessary expense is eating out, which we do way too much of most of the time. It always happens when the groceries run low, and I fail to go to the store like I should. It really is amazing how quickly--and quietly--it adds up.

$4 for breakfast + $5 for lunch x 260 days = $2340
and that's just for the cheap meals - not counting the times I go "splurge" on payday
so there's my D300 AND my Think tank case!

you said it! i've already cutout some of my eating out (except for my tuesday and wednesday tpf meeetups ) but i try and bring food or snacks with me for the rest of the week and it's already made a difference....it's the little things that get you....

here's my saving trick - works for me - might help someone else also....a prepaid credit card! i got my prepaid card from HEB a year ago - used one from before and did the same thing...anyways, i keep all of my spare change in a jar and at the end of the week i dump it onto the card - and leave the card at home....when i get to a certain amount then i know i can shop -- and it's great for shopping online - all of those ebay purchases - no interest charges to the real card - and so far i've gotten most of my equipment from "spare change" .... really helps that the card has a $5000 limit so i love to see how much spare change i can get it up to - i've hit $5000 once already

recently i found out that kids are not like lawns, you can't feed them twice a week and get by with it for very long so i had to resort to packing a lunch and drinking from the cooler. amazing what you save.
