I was Stationed out at Oceana and on a carrier from 88 to 91. The F-18's had a bad rap for the sparrow missiles "detaching" during a landing on an aircraft carrier. I seen it happen a few times and we had a 500lb practice (inert) bomb "detach" during a landing as well from an A-6E. Those are moments where you can actually tell your heart stopped beating for 2 seconds.

Those suckers really scoot down the deck, don't they? That's when you get to see just how fast the blue shirts can run with a load of chains.

One of the A-6E's I maintained had the canopy jettison off @ 30,000 ft and land in someones back yard in Virginia Beach in late 1989.

We lost one of those when I was an instructor in Pensacola. It went in the ocean, though.

virginia pilot said that the bomb was only 10lbs

The Mk 76's are 25lbs, and have a load of white phosphorus in them, so you can see where they hit. I think the BDU-48 is 10lbs.
It really is lucky no one was hurt. A 10-25lb chunk of steel going 300+kts can do a lot of damage.
Here ya go:
