Tonight there will be a double iridium flare (2 at roughly the same time)

31 Oct 19:47:58 -1 51° 25° (NNE) Iridium 32

31 Oct 19:48:12 -1 52° 25° (NNE) Iridium 96

if you are near the area of I-10 and Beltway 8 the west side of town they should be easy to spot.

in this screen shot you will see the 2 blue dots that represent the satelites and the arrow is the direction of travel.

The should be right next to Cassiopeia in the North North Eastern Part of the sky. Just slightly above Polaris and to the right.

James

I got the shot, the second one was dimmer than the first, but still it was neat to see.

Nice catch!

I was flying tonight, too. I wish I had known where to look for it.

Awesome capture James. I wonder how far from the location that flare was computed to be visible from you can be and still see it? (tough sentence to compose )

I think if the flare center is about 30K or less and on the really bright side you can still see it. I typically wont go look for them if they are greater than 20K from flare center.

www.heavens-above.com can hook you up on your location. you can add multiple locations and can get predictions for up to 7 days out.
