Any suggestions for someone wanting to enter modeling?

My 16yr old nephew is thinking about entering the world of modeling. He has broken two state records for powerlifting and continues to work out. He's clean cut, athletic, and a decent looking kid. However, I don't have a clue what to suggest or what direction to send him or caution him about the industry. I can help him put together some photo's, but unsure what would be wanted and what kind of terms he can expect.

I realize that an easier question might be: What's a good camera ?

.... but if you don't ask, you never know.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
