Photography has some interesting terms that might be misunderstood by the non-photographer public.

Overheard at the local diner. " They didn't want to go, but I took the whole family down to the beach and shot them one at a time. Shooting the children was the hardest, but I finished the adults off quickly and got the kids as they were running away by going to full automatic. Wanna see the pictures ?"

Yeah, the term 'shot', or 'shooting' gives off different meanings to non-photogs.

Me: "Honey, I'm going out tonight at 11:30 to shoot the moon"
Wife: "What?!?!?!..."

my mistake at a HPD substation - i walked in talking to another photographer and my statement was "I'm going to shoot her tonight around 8pm and i'll let you know when it's done" -- man you should have seen the looks!!

Overexposed: showing too much skin
Underexposed: someone caught beneath one showing too much skin...

Lets go shoot some things today - animals or people - what is your preference?

It always gets me into trouble when people overhear my question.

We really need to come up with a better word than "shoot" and shorter than "photograph".
