You can buy a card reader at almost any department type store. Walmart, Target, Best Buy, etc. I have three or four and they are all different brands and they all work the same.

If you are talking CF -- then sandisk makes a good cheap one. I have two, one that constantly accompanies my laptop, and one with my desktop computer at the house.

for SD, I have one made by Iomega, that is in the shape of a thumbnail drive that you slide the card into the end, and use it just like a thumbnail usb drive. Very handy to have, and easy to carry around.

Both options are in the 10-12 dollar range

if you have a laptop with a PC Card / PCMCIA slot, buy an adapter for that. It fits into the PC Card slot, the CF slips into that. Fry's has them for <$20.

the advantage is that the adapter card doesn't stick out and can stay in the slot 24/7.

Breezy, I had mixed issues with card readers several years ago. Finally put a combo USB 2.0 card reader/floppy disc drive into my computer. Did a good job, but nothing compared to the Sandisk EXTREME USB 2.0 reader that I am using now. The only thing faster out there on the market that I know of is the firewire version specifically designed to work with the Extreme IV cards.

When I shot candids at Black Dress project one of the photographers needed his cards downloaded. The USB dongle type card reader that we tried using first crawled slower than a newborn baby. I was able to download 9gb of images using my extreme reader in the same time the other reader downloaded 1gb.

Not all readers are the same and sometimes you do get what you pay for.

ok thanks Ken. I will do some research and hopefully get the house back in order tomorrow as I have another newborn shoot Sat. Hopefully it will turn up. If not I will make do with the cord until the new year.
Thanks again to you all for the suggestions
