Hello mister, there is a squirrel in your drain... - 11-11-2007, 09:40 PM

My little next door neighbor came running over today, and told me that there was a squirrel in my downspout on the house. I went outside and all you could see was the tail, so I grabbed it, hair came loose, and it tried to go further up the spout. Her cat had scared the tree rat into running into the first available hiding place.

I did not know how to get it out, so I decided to spray water onto the roof till it came out, soggy. Well again, all that came out was the tail, so I put on the leather gloves, and sprayed more water until the butt came out. I then grabbed the squirrel, which was kicking and clawing my gloves, and pulled it out of the drain spout. It ran to a cedar bush, and hung there for a minute before falling out, and running towards the nearest tree. The cat pounced, and the squirrel was screaming, and the cat really had no idea what to do with this thing, but would not let go, till I grabbed it by the scruff. The squirrel then did about Mach 4 up the tree.

I had never seen a squirrel go up a drain spout on a house before.

Suirrel in the drain pipe ? reminds me of a story I heard. A nice lady called the fire department. When they got there she pointed up into the tree and said that her cat was up there and couldn't get down. The fireman said they didn't go up after cats in trees any more. She said "how come". The fireman asked her " Well Maam, you ever see a dead cat up in a tree ?"

Never saw a dead squirrel in the drain pipe!

We have a lot of squirrels around our house and I love watching them play...until I noticed a hole eaten into an overhang of the roof while putting up Christmas lights this weekend. Now I've got to find something that will drive them out and make sure it's empty before I patch the hole...don't want to start smelling something in a week because one couldn't find a way out.

Just recently we have had the same problem. Our dogs got part of its tail once but it still hides up there. Everytime I hear it up there, I lock the dogs in the house until it is brave enough to run back out. I guess I need to get some mesh to put over the downspout.

A few years ago a friend and myself were out squirrel hunting. My friend got one and upon examination the squirrel was dead, he placed it into a pouch in his hunting vest to be skinned when we got back home.

Not more than 10 minutes later he quickly put his gun down and was tearing at his vest. He quickly had it removed and proceeded to bang the vest against the nearest tree.

The squirrel was only stunned when he placed it in his vest. After coming to, the little guy clawed his way up his back and tried to chew its way out of the hunting vest...
