What the heck is this? - 11-19-2007, 01:24 PM

I was checking my websites for google rankings and reevaluating ad funding. Short version - I found my bridal site under this domain: http://www.reisen-in-flensburg.de/

Why would someone do that? That isn't my domain. It looks like they stole my crappy parked page and got a higher google ranking than mine. What are they doing?

Just a guess . . .

I have been know to lift a whole web site if I like the layout of it. I then replace the content and anything else required to make a new web site. I how ever do this off line until done and it's ready to be posted.

Maybe he's using your web site as an example for something.

At lease he is not adding child porn links to it.

Looks like there are real names and phone numbers attached to the whois information. As for what they're doing, I don't know. It's possible some dude just bought the domain and a coincidence they grabbed your stuff to learn html? It's a stretch, I know. As for beating the google page rank, I went to google to search for "Angie's Bridal Boutique" and couldn't find the real site anywhere. I even added "abilene" to the search terms, and tried a mixture of words. Couldn't find a link to it off your myspace page either. You sure you have a bridal site? If it's ip misdirection, as Abel theorized, that would explain why I couldn't find it on google. It doesn't explain why I couldn't find a link on your myspace page though.

No joke. I have a website (non-photo) for my business, and it's quite well-done in a field where most don't have web-presence. As more people get their advertising online, I've seen MY website at least a dozen times - with a "little" tweaking. I've also seen my images on other sites, my FAQ lifted in entirety and placed on other sites, as well as almost all of my copy being reproduced (plagiarized) on other sites.

I am all too aware of how long it took me to design and write, and my husband to build, that site. Ticks me off when I see it blatantly copied.

Oh well, I'm working on a complete redesign, (as well as a significant business restructuring) to go live in July '08.

I basically just parked a page here: http://www.angiesbridals.com/ while I was changing the name of the store and getting the real website made. This one alerts old customers to the address change and thats it. I don't have it on myspace yet since its basically nothing.

Add insult to injury - his google rating is higher than mine!!! Grrr. So, think this is something devious or a glitch? Im thinking if google logged it that it has been there for a while. And the site title translates to 'travel in flensburg.' What gives?

Doing your tweaking off-line makes it not theft, how?

Maybe I need to 'travel in flensburg.' I think this is sooooooo weird, especially since its a parked page.

Abel, if it is an ip misdirection error - do I need to fix it somehow or will it fix itself?

You can do a DNS Query to take a look at your Zone File just to verify it is correct.

How? I don't own that other web address?

I'll have to talk to Mike - this isnt my thing.

Check with your web host admin. Seems someone has set up a zone file incorrectly, either your host or the other sites host.

Just because you don't own a domain does not mean they cannot point it to the same server your website runs on.
