Random: Flaming Turkey - 11-21-2007, 07:29 PM

So... instead of the normal fire dept. demonstration of the flaming turkey in a frying pot for the newspaper story on Thanksgiving safety....

They wanted me to come up with something for an illustration. The flaming turkey it is...

A bit of rubber cement and grill lighter... and viola.

Here is how they played it in the paper... which was my idea when I shot it. I was hoping for a more squareish shape than the long rectangle... but I'm not the page designer I guess.

Settings were.... D2Hs, 17-55mm (at about 38), ISO 200, f22 at 1/2 a second. With an off-cam SB800 at 1/8th power.

And it's not really a turkey.... but a whole chicken. Scale-wise, it worked out well for me.

Happy Turkey Day....

Real Jason.

Another example of "professional photographer".
I've always defined professional photographer as a photographer who can take an assignment and consistantly create great results whether it's in the studio or in the field.

There are a grillion great photographers out there, but most couldn't take an editors or writers idea and illustrate it in photos.

Nice job.

Tom, thank you very much for the compliment. That means a lot.

It was a blast to do, and everybody at home has been asking me about it.
