FOUND!: I need a Wii - help - 11-26-2007, 10:41 AM

So I'm not a gamer, but my 9 year old wants a Wii.

I refuse to pay $200 upcharge from some yahoo on ebay. I don't want one of the $500 bundles either. Just the base unit and I'll add a game or two and extra controller. Anyone want to share the secret sauce to finding one in the DFW area?

Don't make me post sad looking pictures of her...

Thanks

I bought one about 9 months ago. I used online inventory trackers - I think the one I used was for Target, so we could tell which stores were getting a delivery, when. I don't have the link any more though.
Here's one that is similar and might help

www.wiitracker.com

I stumbled upon a Toys R Us back in September with 20 in stock but didn't have the money to buy until the following week. Needless to say, 4 weeks later I gave up trying to get one (here's hoping Santa had better luck).

Toys R Us and GameStop are two of the very few places that sell the console by itself. I called Toys R Us everyday and they finally told me to watch the online circular as it will give up what's coming to the stores. Be ready to get there and get in line super early if you discover they are coming. BTW- Toys R Us usually restocks Tuesday and Friday or Sat night. I happened to be there on a Sunday morning, apparently they all sold by that afternoon and that was 2months back.

Good luck!

Gamestop and Target got theirs in for the same price of $259 as well. Let me know if you need me to pick one up for you.

I know it won't make you feel better, but about 2 weeks ago, I was at Best Buy looking for a new phone, and stopped by the video game console area, and was scoping out the different models of Xbox that they carry, and asked a few questions. I mentioned that I'd really rather have a Wii, but I understand they never have any in stock. The guy said "Oh, we have some, the truck was just unloaded."

I said "I'll take one."

It was about 8:30pm, on a Thursday. I'm sure they all get trucks in every day, just depends on when they unload them.

Are you a member of Costco? If so, try them. When I spoke to them on the phone I felt like they actually cared (not saying oh we don't have them to shut me up). The bundle came with an extra controller plus Zelda, which is pricey, but it's not the worst bundle out there. I forget how much but maybe it was $350? Plus the membership fee (hadn't been planning to renew!) plus the tolls to drive acrss town...

Otherwise, good luck.... Use the online tools and become a stalker. It's completely ridiculous that these are so hard to find! If I hadn't lucked out at Costco (not all luck after the daily phone calls) I'd probably still be looking.

My daughter was in the Meyerland Target the other day, and spotted 5 on the shelf. She commented to my son-in-law that they had inventory, and out of nowhere 5 women appeared and snatched them off the shelf. Like the old saying, "gold is where you find it".
