cool spherical photos - 11-27-2007, 11:36 AM

I hope it's OK to post a link to someone else' stuff (Alexandre Duret-Lutz I assume; it's in Russian) - I thought you'd all get a kick out of these. Someone's been having fun with spherical photos; these are very imaginitive:

Yeah I'm trying to figure out the perspective- where did he shoot these from to give a solid circular ground shot that looks 360deg?

Simply awesome. :)

wow, this is complicated stuff. Here's what I threw together. I really can't explain how to do these. You have to know how to make 360 degree spherical panoramas, which I do, and then I applied panoramaic filters. (It's a lot of stitching and a lot of knowledge. Your everyday camera lens and tripod head cannot pull this off. Please don't pm me with "how'd you do those?", not to mention, there's a certain level of secrecy.)

These are not nearly as cool as his, but kind of the concept. He put a lot more thought into his shots, and intended them to look that way. These images were made with the intention of turning them into a QTVR (virtual tour).

If I recall correctly, stitch together a 360 degree pano, flip it upside down and apply a Polar Coordinate. This was recently described in one of the photo magazines.

hmm, I'm missing the polar coordinate step. I don't even know what that means or how to do it. When I find some time. I will investigate it. I should prob get a subscription to a photo magazine, which one did you read this in?

and by flip upside down, I assume you mean to set the pitch to -90 degrees, not "flip" the picture, as that is an adjustment option in photoshop.

If this is the same Russian I have looked at before...these shots may have been taken using a special VR mirror for producing VR Panoramas.

These might be the images before making them actual VR panoramas.
I will try to find the site.

Nope...wrong person:
Here is the tutorial...cool stuff

He did mean invert the image. I have not done it, but I remember that being one of the steps.

oh... polar coordinates. The way I was doing it before was WAY out there. haha.
alright, basically take a panorama a 360degree if possible, make the image a square, turn it upsidedown (rotate 180 or flip) and then apply the polar coordinates filter under distort in. Then do some stamp or patch work in photoshop.

these are all still from panoramas I already had. When i get time, I'll go take some more with the intention of making these.
