Question Question re: Parallels - 11-27-2007, 12:46 PM

I want to make sure I understand how this works. If I install Parallels, I have to install Windows in order to run a Windows app. like Office. Correct?

It is just a tool to allow you to install different operating systems to run on top of your original.
With that, you can then run any apps that will run on these other operating systems.

I'm on a Mac. However I need to run MS. Office for work stuff.
I could purchase either Parallel or VMWare, but I chose the route of CrossOver.

With CrossOver, I don't need to install any of the base operating system and simply install MS. Office.
It gives the ability to run a lot of Windows Apps on my Mac.

I wish I had seen that before I bought Parallels & Win XP! How long has CrossOver been out?

CrossOver has been available for several years. The Mac version, IIRC, has been out for several months.
It just doesn't have a lot of advertising power like Parallel or VMWare, but a lot of gamers know about this and has been anticipating the Mac version for a long time. At least ever since MacIntel came about.

I personally use VMWare and CrossOver for different reasons. I did try Parallel, but it had some bugs where it slowed down my Mac processing power too much

Now this looks more appealing to me. I'll take a closer look. Thanks.

Is Crossover just for Intel macs? Right now I'm running Virtual PC on a mac from just before the change, but it's just for one specific software I have to use. Otherwise my Microsoft Office and all the other software is for macs.
