concert/live performance photography - 11-29-2007, 02:00 PM

I am looking for advice/opinions as to what makes a great concert photograph, vs what would be considered average.

I know that personal style of the photographer will figure into it greatly, but if you were to walk into a venue, and be asked to take photos, what would be the elements that you would for sure get, or what elements do you look for to include, and which ones would you leave out because they add nothing. I know that there are exceptions to all rules, but I am basically looking for "the rules" for concert and performance photos.

Thanks for your help!

no examples but don't be afraid of a little blur from slow shutter.
