This is on the west end of the Wildorado Wind Farm Project between Amarillo and Vega and just north of I-40. You don't realize how big these things are until you get right next to one.

Canon gear all the way around, just toss in a bunch of other accessories and you have an addiction.

They are absolutely huge.

The windmill museum up here (or in your case down here) in Lubbock has a working one on site, and has one that is disassembled at the base. The one that is disassembled looks even bigger than the one up in the air. Really impressive to say the least!

The wind farm at Wildorado uses 2.3 mw Siemens wind turbines which are the biggest land turbines but the offshore 3.6 mw are so large they can't be hauled on land! Most of the wind turbines up here are Mitsubishi 1 mw, General Electric 1.5 mw, and Siemens 2.3 mw. It takes several large flatbeds to haul one in.

I kept seeing the vanes on the road and it took me forever to figure out what/where they were used. The engineer in me was going mental until one day it just clicked. I was so proud.

Another cool bit is the tips are travelling at 180 mph.
