What OS are you using? Unless you're using a 64bit OS, going over 3GB of RAM total isn't going to do much. 10K drives are fast for seek times, but do generate more heat. We use 10k and/or 15k SCSI drives in our datacenters, but for home...7200RPM drives are just fine for me...I'd rather spend the difference on another drive or something.

10K RPM drives are really designed for servers in continuously cooled/climate controlled environments. You can fry an egg easily on them without them being in a humidity controlled cooled environment with lots of cooling fans in the case. Stick with 7200 RPM 16MB or 32MB cached drives from Seagate (the ES series is designed for extended service and are really good). Western Digital, which is ok but not great, also just released a new series of drives designed to operate pulling somewhere between 4 and 10 watts LESS than typical drives. Lower wattage means lower heat. And lower heat (generally) means longer life.

Get the Raptor! I've got the same one you're looking at and use it only as my system drive (Raptor 150). The thing rocks. It's worth every dime.

I can't think of another drive I'd want to install my OS on.

love mine too especially after dodge had to put just about a complete new motor in it at 50K miles lol it seems some of the earlier hemis had some valve train issues mine was one i had a valve spring break and guess where it went lol right down the cylinder, it ended up wedged into the top of the piston, the spring went back up into the intake lol man it was mass carnage
