Since I don't have an immediate family here in Texas, I'd like to tell everybody in my TPF family that I had a pretty crappy day today.
The object of this is to have everybody feel as sorry for me as I do.
1- Lightroom seems to have crashed. Won't open since update to 1.3
2- On an engagement shoot outside in the cold, my relatively new 40D and flash unit jump off of the tripod as I was moving it to another spot. The whole thing crashed from about 5ft. to the concrete below. The good news is that it wasn't a total loss. camera and lens appear ( I haven't done a complete diagnostic yet ) to still function OK. The flash however is nearly unusable because one side of the plastic foot broke off.
3- My capable assistants Quantum flash unit stops firing for no apparent reason.
4- My capable assistant almost hits a deer on the way home, in front of me and of course I almost hit capable assistant.
5- Coming through the tiny burg of White Settlement, I get stopped by the local gestapo for "failure to come to a full and complete stop". I know I came to a complete and full stop (I know the definition) since there was traffic crossing from the left. I don't argue with the officer because that serves no useful purpose.
6- I get home just in time to realize I've missed HOUSE on TV.
Bad day. I'm going to have some wine, look over what's left of my equipment, and check in here every now and then to hear how sorry you all are for me. | | | | | Sponsored Links | Premium Members do not see Google advertisements. SIGN UP today and help support our community.

It does sound like a crappy day Tom, but from what I can tell from the post you took it all in stride and did the shoot like the pro you are ... Good Work!

Bad days come and bad days go -- Luckily for you it sounds like this one is on its way out!
Sucks on the equipment thing. One of the worst feelings in the world to see that slow motion drop and not being able to react to it.
Tomorrow will be a better day!

Nevermind -- I'll take care of it myself!

Thanks David . If it weren't for MikeSax helping me out with the couple while I was trying to figure out what still worked, it would have been a double disaster.

Not much consolation but now you are a free man.
Free from worry about minor scratches on camera and lens.

I got my divorce papers in the mail today (which is good). Then husband calls and threatens to sue me for 1/2 the value of my camera stuff, because he thinks it is community property. Never mind that I supported him for over 6 years.
Then I get a letter from the IRS telling me I owe then $1100 dollars.
That was my day. There is more, but I don't wanna talk about it.

Michelle
I am terribly sorry about your day as well. Tell hubby to go ahead and sue, cause he owes hafl of your debts, and especially the one to the IRS.
I'm not a lawyer, but I believe that since the divorce is final he doesn't have a leg to stand on.

Wow - I've seemed to have had several days like that recently. My assistant used to know to steer clear of me if I had lobster soup for lunch and was listening to Hannah Montana. Soup + Hannah = very grumpy holly.
At least you know its not likely to happen again tomorrow! :o)
And - in the off chance you're a wine guy (of course not!) - White Merolt is FREAKIN GOOD! My family were all laughing at me at a wedding a while back b/c I was looking for some. Now they all drink it. Its pink. Don't let the pink fool ya. Yum Yum.

My wife and I were marvelling at the ornaments that were spared from that disaster as we put them back up over the weekend, along with some replacements. One of them was a Campell's soup "Campbell's Kids" ornament from when I worked for them about 17 years ago. My wife noted that it survived as she put it back on the tree yesterday.
It hit the hardwood floor at about 6 AM this morning.
