the phantom dust spot - 12-11-2007, 04:12 PM

So, I've been trying to conquer a dust spot that is somewhere in my camera for quite some time now, and I've been unsuccessful... and I'm getting a little frustrated. Anyone have some tips or ideas? I've cleaned the sensor AND glass with meth/swab.. and I see nothing on either of them. The lens is clean on both faces and in between the filter...

ideas?

I'll assume that you are seeing this dust spot on your images that have been exposed with all your lenses at small apertures ?

It could be a bad pixel?

It's odd - it comes and goes.. on some photos it's not there at all, on others it is..

you can see it on this one top middle center theres a noticable spot. This was taken about 2 months ago... and on photos in between these and others on the same day it's not there. Granted, the sensor was pretty dirty during this shoot, but that same damn spot has been following me between cleans. This particular picture was certainly a high f-stop when taken, but I can't see a noticable correlation between my stop and the spot.

set the camera at F22 on AV and point it at the clear sky, or a white wall.
If you have dust on the sensor, it will show up as a ghost on the image. If the dust is in the lens it will look like a bug on your image...

we posted at the same time.

This looks like a sensor bunny to me. What are you doing to clean the sensor ?
some systems work better than others on some kinds of "dust". I should probably just say that you ought to try something else, since what you are doing now is not working to get rid of this.

the recommended nikon method, wooden flat dowel w/ cleaning wipe wrapped over it & methanol cleaning solution. Using light pressure in sweeping motion down the sensor. I haven't taken a flashlight and really gone to town on it, just careful casual cleans. But from a visual inspection I couldnt see anything on either.
