New Years Eve - What is everyone doing? - 12-13-2007, 10:56 PM

Just curious I know many of us have families and will most likely stay at home but what is everyone doing for New Years Eve?

I will be heading up for a week with some old friends in Austin, Texas for some much needed R&R and catch up time with two of my oldest girlfriends and a couple guy friends (professional musicans) which I previously had not been able to do for various reasons.

Good music, amazing friends, sounds pretty good to ring in the new year.

So lets have some details what is everyone doing?

I'm going to ride my bike (bicycle) 100 miles in the morning. Hang with the family at night. I used to go see the Grateful Dead every year for NYE, but that's back in the good ole days.

Shooting the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl game during the day.
Then, going to the local theater troops performance and subsequent NYE party with friends at the theater.

Probably spending a quiet evening with friends that we don't get to see nearly often enough... including (hopefully) a dear friend who may not see another NYE because of his cancer.

It's a funny thing about New Years. I worked at a hospital for most of my younger days (the perfect job when attending school) and always worked Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and New Years Eve as I thought the people with families ought to be with them. I figured my day would come and eventually it did and so I spend each of those days doing exactly that, hanging out with the family.

That said, it's New Years at 10pm with the kids (as always) and dead asleep by the time midnight passes over Dallas.

Besides, working the evening shift, New Years Eve in the ER was never boring.

I gotta work -- at least for part of the evening, so that will keep me from planning anything too big.

The wife and I planned on staying at the Gaylord Texan for the night and attend the ballroom gala party. The price includes dinner for both of us.
I'll also surprise her with a message session together at the Relache spa there.
I'm so excited.

Well, I'll be at work since I work nights.
But ever since the third time I woke up in the ER with alcohol poisoning, I've been dead sober. So even if I didn't work, I wouldn't be partying.
