Eye Glasses - iZon? - 12-13-2007, 11:27 PM

Just had my almost annual eye exam today and was offered a new technology lens - iZon.

Once you get past the "high definition" marketing hype, it sounds pretty promising: electronic mapping of the eye and creating a set of lenses based on the results.

On the one hand, it seems like the scan technology must have finally gotten to the point where it would be more accurate than the typical lens #1 or lens #2... lens #1 or lens #2 exam? At the same time, the prescription results were a bit different between the scan and the eye doc's numbers. The salesperson said that this was expected - a type of response that always raises a red flag for me.

Soooo.... anyone on the forum have the iZon lenses?

What kind of price range were they? There web pages don't say anything about it.

The iZon ran $440 for the progressive bifocal lenses after the insurance discount (not including the frames).

This is about $160 over my normal lens (hi-index, progressive, anti-reflection, edge polish, etc.). The iZon price included all of the added options.

I've got to say truthfully that I'm getting sick and tired of all this iSh*t.
iPhone, iMac, iPod, iHand, iZon, iPillow, iPet (or whatever the hell it's called. Stupid thing you put your iPod in that dances to the music). Everything is this "i" crap these days. I'm getting sick and tired of it.

With that being said... they look interesting. I might have to check them out next time I go to the eye doctor. That is if the insurance covers them.

So if you were to label this, would you call it an "iRant"?
