i think they could have used a sharper, less noisier image to promote the d3. i'm sure it's capable of some pretty impressive shots - and i'm just wondering why they chose this one.

I think they are promoting the high ISO of 6400 and what a print that size would look like at that ISO. Just my guess.

Very cool shot... guessing they had the D3 mounted low on a lead bike. Love the angle...

I watched the video... pretty neat. A 14-24/2.8 sounds like an awesome lens... and put up the poster on the wall (along with the Olympus insert, to accompany my Canon 5D poster.) Considering ISO6400, I think it's pretty cool. And keep in mind that with a print that size, it wasn't intended to be observed from 4 inches away.

Anyone want my poster?

I wasn't impressed with the cover. I guess I'm not sensitive enough.

Yes, If a Nikon user needs another poster he can have mine also.

If I hadn't invested so much in Canon, I'd go get me one of them Nikons. So I could take shots like that poster.

Cool shot. If I was on that "yeller" bike and some cameraman with a 24mm lens was that close to me I'm not sure that I would like that very much. I wonder if the camera was mounted on another bike or the cameraman was in the turn. Either way he was close.

Good for Nikon. It's about time they offered up something with high ISO capability for their fans. I thought that it was a pretty not bad shot all things considered. I could have done without the rhetoric on the back. If you are trying to catch up and you aren't in the lead then don't blow the horn... 12.1mp... woo hoo, 9 fps at full FX Is FX their full frame sensor? Did they finally come out with an FF camera? I hope so. That's pretty cool if they are getting 9 fps, full frame, and RAW format. Except for the part where they don't tell you how many frames you can shoot at that rate. Eh... whatever... It doesn't affect me one way or the other unless you count a little twinge of happiness that I feel for my fellow photogs that shoot Nikon.

Kudo's to Nikon for finally giving their shooters something to play with in the dark. Kudos to Nikon for putting an example out there that's big enough to make a decision from.

That's exactly right.

The D3 has the same mega pixels as the D2x, and in print a low ISO shot from either camera would look the same. Hell a D40 could make a low ISO shot that would knock your socks off and print that big.

I've got the poster and for an ISO 6400 shot, printed that large, is impressive. Especially if you step back and view it as you would a print that large.

Actually it was at 14mm, not 24mm It was not mounted to a bike for that shot. They have some video from that photo shoot here:

I thought the poster was pretty cool!

I FELT THE EXACT SAME WAY!! First thing that came out of my mouth.. Wow.. That sure shows a lot of noise.. Surprised they use that.

Granted...I assume what you guys are pointing out about it's ability was the reason.. But I gotta say, it made me feel just the opposite...It's a neat image and all.. But my first impression wasn't what I'd call enthused.

Have you ever printed a less noisier image at iso6400 that size?

I for one I'm glad Nikon didn't use some controlled light studio shot to show it's ISO performance. The one they used is with more real world lighting.
Also, trying to get that shot without 9fps and 14mm lens would be hard also. I can't think of too many full frame cameras that can do 9fps.

Nope...

Then again, I can't think of a time where I'd be shooting outside like that at 6400 personally. Not saying that it shouldn't be done or that it was a bad image...Just saying, my initial impression was much like Janet's... It didn't have the effect that I would have thought Nikon was after (on me).
