where to get 128 mb memory Sticks - 12-17-2007, 07:02 PM

My wifes Sony 707 only takes 128mb memory sticks or smaller and i am getting a memory stick error. I looked the error up on google and the results are not good. either the memory sticks are bad (all 3 of them) or the camera is bad. She loves the camera and really does not want a new one.

Anyone know where I can get some memory sticks in Houston??? I found some on ebay, but really dont want to buy off of there anymore.

I looked at best buy, micro center and frys and no one has the 128mb sticks.

sorry, but ebay is going to be about it.

fwiw, all 3 being bad is a real stretch, so I'm saying it is probably the camera.

The 707 will not use MS-Pro, the 717 was the first model to use the "Pro".

If you happened to be testing with MS-Pro that will be the cause of the error.

The older non-Pro are going to be hard to find unless you can find a Sony owner getting rid of their kit.

Contact Tim Driver - he is in the Houston area. If anyone can help, he can.

I think I might have one at home. Let me know if you don't find any and I'll check for you.

James, I had the exact same problem with the Sony f707 a couple of years ago. It did the same thing with several memory sticks. I just gave up on it. Good luck with yours.

I had to look back a little bit, but I'm pretty sure that the 707 had a problem where the contacts in the camera wore a bit and did not "contact" the little metal strips on the MS.

Do not give up on the 707s, I think the fix is pretty easy, but does require dis-assembly for cleaning and adjustment.

Once again, contact Tim Driver, at the link in my other response.

If you happen to decide to throw the 707s away, I know a great mail address for a trash can.

I only have the regular Memory sticks, no pro ones here.

Believe it or not, this morning before I left the house to go ship the camera off I decided to check it out one last time and it worked. It gave me a "format error", probablly because I formatted the cards in my PC trying to figure out what was wrong. The camera would still not see the cards last night, but this morning it worked just fine. I formatted the cards in camera made several test shots, formatted again, more shots, formatted and it still works.

My wife loves the Sony 707 and does not want a new camera so I was all ready to ship it off for repair. We will see how long it holds up this time. But i know it will have to go in for repair one of these days
