Irving ISD Technology Fair: Judges Needed Pt. 2 - 12-17-2007, 09:39 PM

I posted this time last year asking for your help in judging our school district's online photography contest. The help you gave was amazing and you impacted our students in a very positive way. You can read the thread from last year here: http://www.texasphotoforum.com/forum...ad.php?t=37146

Well, its time for this year's contest and I am asking for your cooperation again. We need some judges! We would love to have people from all over Texas and across the world judge the entries, so help spread the word! Since our Photography contest was such a success last year, we have expanded to include six different categories. The entry categories open for on-line judging are:

digital photography
digital audio
digital video (short clips)
original illustrated art
product design
website design

If you have some expertise in any of these areas we would love for you to help us out and leave the students some constructive comments to help them improve… or forward this information on to a friend. The entrants range from pre-Kindergarten through adults, so there are a variety of ability levels.

The purpose of us extending the judging to those outside of the district is to hopefully get some feedback for our students from those of you practicing these technology/creative skills (either as a profession or a hobby). So, judge as many entries as you like.

Judging will be openthrough January 7, 2008. Here is the link to the entries: http://www.irvingisd.net/mediafaironline/

Thank you SO MUCH for participating. If you need to contact me, my email address is dwilson@irvingisd.net and my cell is 214-226-1672. Any help you could offer would be GREATLY appreciated. I'll keep you posted as we progress. Thanks in advance.

Can this be done anytime between now and the deadline? If so, I'll volunteer to review some.

Yes, you can judge any time between now and January 7th. You can judge as many as your time allows. Thanks for your efforts.

Friendly Friday Bump.

We have seen a lot of participation so far. If you haven't yet, please spend a few minutes critiquing/judging some of our entries. Happy holidays.

We would really appreciate some more of you giving a little of your time and commenting on our students' work. It would only take a few minutes per photo. You'll really be impressed with some of the images.

Spread some of that left-over holiday cheer around and help us out. We only have a little over a week left. Come on...you know you want to.

This is my LAST shameless bump of this thread. Our judging window closes next Monday and just wanted to ask one more time for your input. The response has been terrific so far (THANKS to everyone who has already judged.)

In a time of a TEST, TEST, and RETEST educational environment, our district's Technology Media Fair is a great creative outlet for our students who think and create outside the box (or multiple choice answer document). Any supportive comments you can send their way will go a long way. You may never see the results first hand...but it may be the one thing that gets one of our students thinking seriously about a creative hobby or career.

You are more than welcome to judge in the categories other than photography. Please take a few minutes to check it out: http://www.irvingisd.net/mediafaironline/

Thanks, again.

I've checked out and judged a few. Some of the students have a real chance at being good at photography. I hope some of them get attached and continue to go after it. I'll vote on as many as possible.

I'll check the other categories out and see if I can provide any input there as well.

Thanks Jon and Crystal.

This is exactly the kind of comments we are hoping to get.

Quote:
This photo is a good one. The only thing lacking is the blurryness in the larger resolution image. This could be intended by you, or maybe due to a technical problem with the camera. It's not all that bad blurry, and in fact adds to the dingy feel you were going for. (Still, sharp focus outlining the "worn in" feel of the mat, dirt, etc would be better.) Overall great. Using dull colors to portray the well used look of the mat, and everything else makes the picture interesting to look at. You could be a really good photographer with more practice, judging by this image.
The girl that took this is one of my students. She (and many others) will really soak up the comments that are left from you all. She has some real talent and is eager to learn.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!

Well she does have potential. Her theme seems very well thought out. Forethought in photography can end up making amazing photographs. If she obtained the technical skill for photography over time, she could turn out some good photos I'd bet.

I'm happy to see younger people taking an interest. My interest in photography probably got rooted when I took a darkroom class in high school just for a school credit, and nothing more. Now I'm loving photography.

Yep, glad to have voted. I voted on everything I felt I could put constructive input on.

Is the feedback printed and handed out to students? And is there a 'winner' in this contest? Is it determined by the votes we made that create the number scores? I'm curious how it'll end up. It was fun commenting. Until next year...!
