Snowy Oklahoma roads. When there is more snow on the roads in Oklahoma and Kansas then in Nebraska and Iowa it likely to be a long trip. Started raining in OKC and by time I filled the limo with gas in Perry it was snowing.
Kansas, the snow side was clear sailing and where the passing was done. Very nice to see Texas cars going 3x faster, in the snow, then they do when it snows in Texas.
My big mistake was not taking this exit, south of Wichita. Assumed that once past the I-135 exit things would get back up to speed. Nope that exit was closed.
Everyone seemed to be cleaning ice off their windshield wipers, except for me. As soon as it had started to snow I had turned off the defroster so the snow wouldn’t melt upon hitting the windshield. I was feeling rather smug.
Once I saw southbound I-35 at a standstill, knew the only movement in my lane was from cars compressing the empty space between themselves. Kansas DOT couldn’t plow the roads fast enough to keep up.
Finally found a local radio station (1070 AM) that had real traffic updates and at 5:00 they said the truck blocking the NB I-35 at exit 45 had finally been unstuck and traffic was moving again. Usually takes two hours to go from the south tollbooth to Topeka, this time it took six hours.
The limo getting filled with Indian reservation gas, 4 miles farther north the roads where clear.
The real bad news was the Taco Bell burritos, I got in Council Bluffs, didn’t agree with me. Could’ve stopped at the three rest stops between there and Sioux City, only stopped at one. Sunday I slept all day and ate a banana. Monday I felt well enough to go the Christmas Eve service and eat some dinner/supper afterwards.
Normal trip is between 11:40-12:00
