If you cant handle the heat... Stay outta the Kitchen - 12-29-2007, 10:25 AM

I am really getting a little frustrated by people on this forum who ask for C&C and when you give it to them they defend their images or explain how your critiquie is wrong. Why not just say 'Please tell me the good things about my image' ???? I have definitely found myself commenting less and less b.c of those few who really dont want the critique. It just feels like a big waste of time. Its a shame for those people who really want to learn and can handle it b.c I doubt I am the only one who feels this way.
People on this site, for the most part, are very gentle and tactful about how they critique. .... soo..... I say if you cant take the critique DONT ASK FOR IT.

Ok... my rant is over =)

LoL. I didn't mean to be so cryptic. I was just being facetious and responding the way some people have in the past to photo critics.

C&C is too loose a term when "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." If someone has a "vision" about how their photo should look, they should ask for that type help, like "How do I make this POP?" or "How do I mute certain colors?". Otherwise if kudos are what the wish is, just post; people will tell you if they like it (if they have time).

I agree with you Jessica. It's too often that people ask for C&C but only want others to confirm what they think of their work. If they ask for it, they should realize that not everyone is going to love/like it as much as they do. Dylan said it best, "Don't ask me no questions, I just might tell you the truth."

Yes...I always thought of critiques for photos a little forum unfriendly by nature. I mean if someone takes a shot and the outdoor setting, studio setup or model were just right for the photo in question and the critiques say something like the arms should have been this way or that tree should have had less DOF, its good stuff to remember for next time (man this is the worst run on sentence i've had in a long time)

Sometimes there's no going back. And being honest with critiques is the best way to be helpful. And the words "take them with a grain of salt" is healthy to live by. I learned a lot of this in my painting classes. With painting you have the freedom to go back and change things.

Wow, I didn't realize there were people out there (that haven't been banned). I've never had this kind of experience (on this forum). I've found that most everyone is positive regarding critiques (that haven't been banned).

Best thing to do is just agree with them. "Oh yeah, I see it now, your right. Hey - you should enter this in a contest!"
