Each year for the past four I have looked at these pictures, and each year, I am constantly amazed and inspired by the astounding quality of photographs that are produced in just one short year. In looking at these photos, I am reminded of a very simple photographic message -- regardless of the content, composition reigns as the defining element. In each of the photos that took my breath away (and there were several) the one common thread in each of them was the arresting compositional elements. Simply amazing work from around the globe!
