So I have to rant.. The people below me at my apartment complex are blaring their bass in the middle of the night AGAIN. I've lost count of how many times they do. It's not always after midnight, but it's still loud enough (any time of the day) to be offensive. And it seems I'm the ONLY person in the whole complex that is bothered by it.

I know it's two guys, and well.. I'm a very short, thin, and weak white female in my pajamas.. so I don't dare go knock on their door. Once I had a guy friend go do it for me, and they stopped immediately... But that was weeks ago and now they're back at it.

One of my friends said to call 911 to report the sound violation. And he was serious. Does anyone know if this is true?

I mean, they slap your wrist billions of times growing up to make sure you know only to call in emergencies. I feel wrong calling it to report something as petty as loud bass. lol

I had a similar problem here in San Antonio last year. I was told that if the sound was from an 'outside source' (ie car, boombox, party) to call 911. If the noise was from inside the house then it was a code compliance issue and to call 311 (city services) and report it.

Basically 911 resolves it in the short term, but 311 keeps the long term records that can be used to lead to eviction. And on that note - they can be evicted if enough complaints are filed against them. So check with some neighbors and ask them to call it in and report it to the facitilty management.

I would call. And get as many others to call as I could.
I would also leave them an anonymous note on their door.
In the mean time you could buy some ear plugs and a box fan at the bottom of your bed.

Can you call the apartment office? Do they have a security guard of some sort? If not, call the cops. Not 911, but the police station. Look it up in the phone book or call information.

Contact the apartment office. They most likely have rules against noise after 11:00pm. You can file a formal complaint and they'll let the guys know someone has complained, and that if there are more complaints they'll be evicted.

Bill is right. Work it though the apartment management. They'll take care of it. And ask them what your recourse is if it happens again in the middle of the night. As stated above, most apartments have a 24/7 security guard on the premises, and most of the time, it's an off duty officer. The apartment answering service can/should alert them for policy violations.

You apartment manager should be notified of problems, dates and time. They should handle it, also they should have a 24hour number that you can call and report problems like this. I actually had someone evicted because of this same issue a few years ago.

Figure out when they go to sleep and blare some bass of your own. Not a good idea, just thought I'd throw it out there.
