Thanks for bumping this, reminds me that I need to go down to "One Guy's" here in Lubbock and get a calzone for lunch....

as far as BBQ is concerned -- I have eaten in Memphis at three different places, and wasn't all that impressed with any of them. I'll take cental Texas BBQ over memphis any day of the week. And if you like pork heavy on the vinegar sauce, then it is hard to beat the Carolina's. There are a few hole in the wall places out there that will make you "slap yo mama in the mouth" they are so good with the pulled pork from a pit in the ground out back, and a spicy thin sauce heavy on vinegar and cayenne pepper....mmmmmmmmmmm.

Nevermind -- I'll take care of it myself!

On the outer banks of North Carolina, near a town called Duck, there is a pork BBQ pit named Bubba's that is just like you describe. It's just a shack, and it has some of the best food I've ever tasted.

BTW, of the listed foods, I've had them all except Memphis BBQ and Paula Dean's. She would be pretty far down on my list of Food Network chef's places. I'd first rather go to Mesa Grille (Bobby Flay), or one of Batali's restaurants, or Emeril's. I've eaten in Morimoto's in Philly, and it was fantastic. Also been to Tony Bourdain's restaurant in NY (Les Halles), which is a fine, authentic French Bistro -- simple French food done impeccably.

Gotta go to Japan to get seaweed or corn (yes, corn) on your pizza...

I love NY but Chicago is the winner by a breath of wind. I don't turn down either one.

New York, New York baby! Nothing better than walking up to a window on the street and getting a slice! It's the same as pizza in San Francisco (North Beach area).

I'm sorry, but in NY, bagels from H&H Bagels beats a slice in the morning.

So do fresh beignets on the street in New Orleans, or what's left of it.

Or a freshly baked croissant and cafe au lait at a sidewalk cafe in Paris while watching others go to work.

And for a truly great, and unusual, breakfast its hard to beat a dozen piping hot soup dumplings from a street vendor in Shanghai. Yum....

Thinner crust means more topping. Nowhere for that flavor to hide!

I had thought about Buffalo Wings and forgot to list it but I am not a seafood person though.

As for BBQ, has anyone ate at Pappa's BBQ on WNW Freeway in NW Dallas? I discovered them back in November when I came up for Darryl's workshop and I now like to go eat there when I am in town since they have all-u-can-eat. They are pretty good.
