didn't get this said before the thread got closed.

here's a different way to think about oil consumption. whenever the profits of a huge oil company come up, people invariably start talking about the price of gas. the discussion always includes how much gas we consume, and how if we stopped demanding so much, the price of oil would go down. no argument there, but given our addiction to automobiles, that's just not a practical way to look at it. that's a solution that will take decades to materialize.

what can you do today?

here's one: stop drinking bottled water! 15 BILLION gallons of the stuff consumed every year by suckers who think they are drinking something better than tap water means fuel required to transport it, and oil required to make the bottles. EVERY plastic item you purchase then discard takes oil. you can't stop driving to work today, but you can stop needlessly wasting oil and contributing to the growing trash pile.

I haven't kept up with the forum over the past 3 weeks as I was in Russia from the 16th through the 31st. Saw in the closed thread various points, but just want to show you that we don't pay as high for our gas as it is in St Petersburg. For 92 octane it's $3.24 a gallon. $3.80 for 98 octane.

they say that by 2012 china will need 2x as much oil as today. now THAT should improve your 401k position. the problem is that it won't put cash in your pocket so you can buy some $5/gallon gas.

HAhahaa.... here ya go Ken

In the year 2525
Zager and Evans
Reached #1 in July of 1969

In the year 2525
If man is still alive
If woman can survive they may find

In the year 3535
Ain't gonna need to tell the truth, tell no lies
Everything you think do and say
Is in the pill you took today

In the year 4545
You ain't gonna need your teeth won't need your eyes
You won't find a thing to chew
Nobody's gonna look at you

In the year 5555
Your arms hangin' limp at your sides
Your legs got nothin' to do
Some machine's doing that for you

In the year 6565
You won't need no husband, won't need no wife
You'll pick your son, pick your daughter too
From the bottom of a long glass tube

In the year 7510
If God's a comin' He oughta make it by then
Maybe He'll look around Himself and say
Guess it's time for the judgement day

In the year 8510
God is gonna shake His mighty head
He'll either say I'm pleased where man has been
Or tear it down and start again woh oh

In the year 9595
I'm kinda wonderin' if man is gonna be alive
He's takin everything this old earth can give
And he ain't put back nothin woh oh

Now it's been ten thousand years
Man has cried a billion tears
For what he never knew
Now man's reign is through

But through eternal night
The twinkling of starlight
So very far away
Maybe it's only yesterday

In the year 2525
If man is still alive
If woman can survive, they may find......
